
Charlene Poppinga, 88 of Sedalia, died Friday, July 7, 2023, at her daughter’s home in Lees Summit, surrounded by her family.
Mass of Christian burial will be 11:00am, Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at the St. Patrick Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, with Fr. Cesar Anicama as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Mrs. Poppinga will lie in state at the church from 9am until service time on Tuesday. Memorials are suggested to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or the charity of your choice, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
Born March 12, 1935, in Kansas City, MO, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Owida May Allen Kearn.
She is survived by three sons Joseph Glen Poppinga, John Andrew Poppinga and his wife Christy of Sedalia and William Allen Poppinga of Warsaw; daughter Teresa May Poppinga and her wife Anna E. Hazen of Lees Summit; five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her sister Darlyne Cramer.
Charlene was a member of the St. Patrick Chapel of St. Vincent de Paul Parish, and a 1953 graduate of Green Ridge High School. She spent most of her life in Sedalia, before moving to Lees Summit in 2022.
Charlene loved the simple things in life. She enjoyed her church, visiting with her long-time friends and family, reading, and talking. She was kind, generous, and caring. She would talk to and share with anyone who would listen. She was courageous and independent. Charlene was petite in stature but possessed a strong work ethic with a fierce conviction of right and wrong. She was a woman of integrity. A devoted wife and mother of four children, she cared for people her entire life. She considered this her greatest calling. Charlene will be greatly missed.
