The Cooper County Fire Protection District was dispatched to East Bound 1-70 at the 100 mile marker for a semi trailer on fire on Satruday, July 8. According to the district, the back axle/brake area was the location of the start of the fire and the driver was able to disconnect and remove the semi from the trailer.

The trailer was carrying bags of dry cat food. Fire crews arrived on scene and began extinguishing the trailer fire with one engine, two tankers, and six fire fighters using approximately 11,000 gallons of water to put out the fire.
