
James R. “Jim” Stedem, 85, of Marshall, MO, died Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the home of his son in Marshall.
Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Inurnment will follow in Ridge Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Thursday at the church. Born November 7, 1937, in Marshall, he was the son of the late Henry F. Stedem and Rosina Kruse Stedem. Jim lived in Marshall most of his life where he was a 1957 graduate of Mercy Academy and had served in the Missouri Army National Guard for several years. On November 9, 1963, he married Phyllis VanBuskirk who survives of the home. In his younger years, Jim had worked as a manager for P.N. Hirsch, at J.C. Penny, W.B. Young, Marshall Paving, and then retired from Con-Agra in Marshall. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife of nearly 60 years, Phyllis; he is survived by three children: Kirk Stedem (Teresa) of Brownsburg, IN, Erin Stedem of Sedalia and Ryan Stedem (Debbie) of Marshall; five grandchildren: Andrea Milender, Jessica King-Mohr, Dillon Stedem, Shelby Koch and Addison Stedem; three great-grandchildren: Dawson, Everett and Kingsley; six siblings: Mary Hogan of Marshall, Fran Durnil of St. Charles, Bill Stedem (Louise) of Lee’s Summit, Margie Riggins (Floyd) of Marshall, Donna Henning of Marshall and Sherry Sullivant of Shawnee Mission, KS; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Betty Lou Stedem; and one brother, Edward H. “Eddie” Stedem; four brothers-in-law: James Hogan, Bob Durnil, Charles Henning and Pat Sullivant.
