John F. Arth, 79, of Waverly, MO, formerly of Gravois Mills, MO, died Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at St. Peter Catholic Church in Marshall, with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial will be in Saint John Cemetery near Dover, MO. Memorials are suggested to St. Peter Catholic Church or Saint John Cemetery in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born May 16, 1944, in Lexington, MO, he was the son of the late Joseph M. Arth and Elaine Arth. He was a graduate of Santa Fe High School in Grand Pass and earned an associate degree in accounting from Kansas City Business College. On April 17, 1963, he married Sharon L. Closterman who survives of the home. He was an office manager at  Carroll County Memorial Hospital; administrator for Sac Osage Hospital in Osceola and Elliott Memorial Hospital in Appleton City; regional health planning coordinator for Kaysinger Basin Regional Planning Commission; and nursing home administrator in Tipton and Camdenton. After retirement from nursing home administration, he worked at Poly Lift in Sunrise Beach for many years. He was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council and Elks Lodge, both in Laurie, and was a former member of the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club and a past AFS sponsor.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon; two daughters, Mischelle Gibson (Dean) of rural Clarksburg and Melissa Knipp (Dion) of Tipton; five grandchildren, Elyse Hartley (Tyler), Abigail Lynch (Chris), Seth Gibson (Brooklynn), Zachary Knipp and Carter Knipp; three great-grandchildren, Mary Emma Hartley, Vivian Hartley and Millie Lynch; four siblings, Carol Kuntz of Springfield, Gary Arth (Heather) of Marshall, Mike Arth (Shelly) of Grand Pass and Susan Watson (Dennis) of Chillicothe; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by two brothers, Donald Arth and Bob Arth.
