Clayton Eugene “Gene” Holt, 78, of Slater, MO, died Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, August 26, 2023, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall with William W. Harlow officiating.  Burial will follow in Slater City Cemetery.  There will be no visitation, but friends may pay their respects and sign the guestbook from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Thursday, August 24 and Friday August 25, at the funeral home.  Memorials are suggested to Slater Optimist Club and an online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com

Born May 28, 1945, in Saline County, he was the son of the late Clayton Holt and Louise Johnson Holt Klasing.  Gene lived in the Slater area most of his life and was a 1963 graduate of Slater High School.  On February 13, 1983, he married Connie Odell North who survives of the home.  Gene’s nearly 40 year career was spent with the railroad where he worked as a conductor/brakeman until his retirement.  He was an avid fisherman, well known mushroom hunter and supporter of the races.  He had been a member of Concord Christian Church, Cambridge Masonic Lodge, Slater Jaycees and 401 Couples Club.  Gene was deeply loved and respected by his family and friends and will be missed.

In addition to his wife, Connie; he is survived by one son, Randall Eugene Holt (Mary) of Slater; one daughter, Tammy Sullivan (Terry) of Slater; two stepdaughters, Stacy Parmer (John) of Columbia and Carrie Scheid (Jeff Wise) of Miami; seven grandchildren: Ashley Hernandez (Ricky), Chelsie Jackson (Bo), Travis Holt (Hunter), Zachery Sullivan (Emilee), Kaylee Holt, Haylee Scheid (Jerry Huff) and Lauryn Scheid; five great-grandchildren: William, Mavryck, Jett, Bristol and Amelia.
