The University of Central Missouri (UCM) Board of Governors approved a name change for the Multipurpose Building during a plenary session on Thursday, August 17.

The building, built in 1976, will be renamed the Jerry M. Hughes Athletics Center according to the university. Hughes spent over four decades with the university as a business placement director, Assistant Athletics Director and Athletics Director and recently served as Vice-President of Intercollegiate Athletics. Hughes passed away on January 21, 2023. During his tenure, the university won ten team-based national championships.

The facility is not only home to athletics events but also hosts commencement, concerts, various large gatherings and recreational activities.
