The Marshall City Council heard the first reading of the 2023-2024 city budget during its meeting on Tuesday, September 19.

The budget for the city is estimated at $14,631,386. Highlights include an estimated rise in real estate, property and sales tax revenues. The budget also includes a three percent pay increase for city workers and adding a new Narcotics Officer to the Marshall Police Department. Other items in the budget include Air Pacs for the Marshall Fire Department, a new arm mower for the sanitation department and a new snow plow. The final budget will need to be approved at the next council meeting.

In other news the council approved a bid for new flagpoles at city hall. Mayor Vince Lutterbie stated the city will keep three flagpoles in place with the installation done by the city to save costs.

The cost of the project will be $5,440.
