Jody was born on October 30, 1970, in Waverly, MO, he was the son of the late Gilbert Alvin Bergman and Mary Jane Wyssmann Bergman who survives of Alma. Jody lived in the Alma area his entire life and graduated from Santa Fe High School in 1989. He then earned his bachelor’s degree in human service agency management and recreation administration from Missouri Valley College in Marshall.
On September 24, 1990, Jody had his first date with Tiffany Peters, and with 24 being a special number to them, they were united in marriage on May 24, 1997. Jody and Tiffany were blessed to have each other and were always a part of one another’s endeavors, whatever they may be. They were also blessed in their marriage with four wonderful sons that were the light of Jody’s life and he was a dedicated dad who was involved in their life on a daily basis.
Jody dedicated his life to public service. For the last 22 years he has served as the Director of Parks and Recreation for the City of Concordia and helped them build, plan, and develop the multi-faceted program that it is today. He was a member of the Missouri Parks and Recreation Association as well as a Certified Non-Profit Professional.
Jody had a passion for faith, family, youth, agriculture and community service. His faith was well represented as an active and faithful member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma where he served on numerous committees and boards, as well as serving as a head usher.
He had a God given love for his wife and boys. He and Tiffany shared each other’s dedication to their children, careers, and public service endeavors. Jody enjoyed helping youth which led him to serve as the Rival’s football coach, a Santa Fe Little League coach, and being the voice behind the microphone for the Santa Fe Chiefs football games. He also served as president of the Santa Fe Ball Association for over 20 years.
Being raised on the farm, Jody had a great love for agriculture. He wanted to help ensure that youth in agriculture continued in the local area, so he was one of the founding signatures on February 1, 2000, that created what is now known as Santa Fe Agri-leaders. Jody also served at the state level of Missouri Young Farmers, serving as president and past president, a member of the National Young Farmers, and a Missouri 4-H Volunteer.
Jody was very proud to be from rural Missouri and loved his entire community. He served on the Alma Fire Board as their secretary and treasurer, was a member of the Lafayette County Cattlemen’s Association, and the Alma Community Club.
One of the things that was said about Jody and his dedication to everything that he did was that he was “eternally generous with his time.” With time being the absolute most precious resource that we have in life, Jody was willing to give it away. He and Tiffany made such a good team because they were both there for each other and supportive of each other’s goals. They were such a good team because they have an undying love for their sons that will last forever. His family, whether it be his wife or sons, his parents, siblings, or just a friend who needed help, he was never going to say no. Jody had a hard time saying no to anyone and the same was true on Sunday, October 1, 2023, as he was going to serve and worship at church. God called Jody home and he couldn’t say no. As it was much to soon for us, we rejoice in knowing that he is with the Lord and that one day we will see him again.
Jody’s dedicated life will continue to be celebrated by his wife, Tiffany Peters Bergman of the home; his four sons that he unconditionally loved: Caleb Wright Bergman of Marshall, Connor Wyssmann Bergman of Tulsa, OK, Caedon Taylor Bergman of Alma and Colstyn Heins Bergman of Alma; his beloved mother, Mary Jane Wyssmann Bergman of Alma; his caring siblings, Jeff Bergman of Alma and Jennifer Bergman of St. Louis; his caring in-law, Donald and Jamie Peters of Colorado Springs, CO; as well as all of Tiffany’s family; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends.
