Marshall Public Schools Superintendent Caleb Petet discussed a potential land exchange proposal with the City of Marshall during the Board of Education meeting on Tuesday, October 10.

The school district is interested in the land surrounding Spainhower Primary School and the future location of Marshall Intermediate School. This land totals about 175 acres, and the district has future plans for that land.

In return, Petet proposed tearing down Eastwood Elementary and conveying that property and the railroad easement just north of it to the city. Petet detailed the proposed exchange.

Petet also stated the proposal would release the city of about $1.5 million in street and lighting work on the property near Spainhower.

Eastwood Elementary will still be in use until the construction of the Marshall Intermediate School, which is estimated to be complete by August 2025. After the Intermediate School is functional, Eastwood would be closed and torn down, and the property would be given to the city.

Petet is presenting this proposal to the Marshall City Council during a special meeting on Wednesday, October 11.
