The Concordia Board of Aldermen approved extension of a half-cent sales tax question on the April 2, 2024 ballot during its meeting on October 16.

The city currently has two quarter-cent taxes that are listed as Parks and Recreation taxes. The board wants to combine them into a half-cent, and then extend them on the April 2024 election ballot.

City Administrator Dale Klussman said the tax money can be used for Parks and Recreation, but the city primarily uses it for the recreation side of things.

This covers the recreational buildings like the Concordia Aquatic Center, the Concordia Athletic Fields, and the Community Center. The board approved a motion to put the combined tax on the ballot.

In other news, the board approved a motion to approve the new water service connection fees. These fees only apply whenever the city has to establish a water service connection at a residence.
