Marshall Mayor Vince Lutterbie hosted a public forum with the goal to provide more information about the City’s decision to terminate a Memorandum of Understanding with the Saline Animal League (SAL) and the Marshall Animal Shelter on Tuesday, October 17.
Lutterbie explained there was friction between the two entities, which ultimately led to the decision to terminate the MOU.
Lutterbie was unable to disclose the exact reasons and causes due to it being a personnel decision. However, Lutterbie did want to reiterate that the Shelter will not be a kill shelter, and hopes the Saline Animal League will continue to work with the shelter for the sake of the animals.
Some questions were brought up about the operations at the shelter, and what the city plans to do in the meantime. Lutterbie said the current SAL operations at the shelter will be in effect until December 1, 2023.
Lutterbie also gave his word that he and the council will try to get funding for the shelter.
The council chambers were full of concerned citizens looking for answers and the meeting got contentious at times. You can listen to the full audio from the meeting by clicking on the audio link below.
