The Marshall Community Chorus announced its upcoming 35th season of free performances. Under the direction of Ron Sayer, the chorus will present a series of concerts for the public.

The season opens with what promises to be an inspiring and memorable concert of sacred choral music. Exploring the ever-growing treasury of music for the church, its seasons and celebrations, the concert is titled “With Heart and Voice.”

According to Sayer, the concert will “focus on the richness and beauty of sacred choral music. Representative of many denominations, cultures, and nationalities, we will explore over a thousand years of sacred music”.

The concert will feature about fifteen selections representing the many genres of sacred choral music, and showcasing well-known traditional hymns as well as music from the Baroque, Classical, Romantic, and modern eras.

Several guests will also join the performance.

“We’re pulling out the stops, both figuratively and literally, for this concert” remarked Sayer. In addition to the usual piano accompaniment, the choir will be accompanied by brass, strings, and organ on several selections.

Guest organist for the concert will be Dr. Andrew Meagher, who is the recently installed organist and director of music at St. Joseph Cathedral in Jefferson City. Dr. Meagher is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where he earned his doctorate in organ performance.

The concert begins at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 22, in the sanctuary of First Christian Church of Marshall, located at 130 North Jefferson Avenue. As always, the concert is free and open to the public.
