Peggy L. Morton, 85, of Slater, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023 at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Graveside services will be Monday, October 23, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Slater City Cemetery, with Rev. Pam Sebastian officiating.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Cancer Society in care of Weiker Funeral Home in Slater.

Born March 19, 1938 in Slater, she was the daughter of the late Lawrence A. and Alice Vernold Durham.  On June 13, 1953 in Marshall, she married Edward L. Morton, and he preceded her in death on January 28, 2011.

She is survived by three sons, Ricky Morton of Marshall, Larry Morton of Smithton, and David Morton of Forrest Green; nine grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by a brother, Albert “Butch” Durham; a sister, Ruby Romine; and a great-grandson.

Mrs. Morton was a member of the Slater United Methodist Church.  She worked for many years as a cook at Big Bend Retreat in Slater until her retirement; and was known as a master gardener
