A Drug Take Back event is scheduled in Johnson County on Saturday, October 28 for the DEA National Take Back Day.
Johnson County Sheriff’s Office Deputies will be in the northeast corner of the parking lot of Walgreens located at 621 North Maguire in Warrensburg between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. collecting expired and unwanted prescription medications. You can simply drive up in your vehicle and hand the Deputies your unwanted prescription drugs or you are welcome to park and walk them up as well. Liquid medications and syringes are not accepted for disposal.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the public about the potential for abuse of medications. Unneeded prescription medication (those that are old, unwanted, or no longer needed) are a public safety issue, too often becoming a gateway to addiction. The majority of opioid addictions start with prescription pills found in medicine cabinets at home. Pharmaceutical drugs can be just as dangerous as street drugs when taken without a prescription or a doctor’s supervision.
DEA’s National Prescription Drug Tack Back Day events are one way to dispose of unneeded medications.
