The Sweet Springs Police Department arrested a subject after conducting a traffic stop on October 30, 2023.

According to the department, authorities attempted to stop a truck driven by Matthew Keck for having expired license plates.

Keck’s vehicle did not initially stop and instead turned and parked behind an apartment complex. Keck exited his vehicle and refused to comply with the officer’s verbal commands. Police prevented Keck from fleeing the scene and placed him under arrest.

Police searched the vehicle and found a handgun, a glass smoking pipe with methamphetamine, and a blue pill bottle that contained methamphetamine. The firearm reportedly belonged to Keck’s girlfriend.

Court documents say Keck is charged with felonies for possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm. Bond was set at $10,000 cash only.

Keck is due for a confined docket hearing at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 8; and preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 22 at Saline County Circuit Court.
