The Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 Veteran Day Committee sponsored the Veteran Day Service at the Saline County Courthouse yesterday November 10, in Marshall.

The service began with the “Bells of Peace” by Eugene Millard echoing through the speakers on the courthouse lawn while the sun shined and crisp autumn leaves spiraled throughout. The Speaker, Retired USN Captain Stephen J. Olsen, addressed the crowd  following the program event schedule.

Next, the Missouri Army National Guard 1128th Forward Support Company presented the colors. The National Anthem was played by the Bueker Middle School 8th grade band with Sara Summers directing. The Invocation was pronounced by pastor Ralph Varner. The fourth grade Choir of Benton and Eastwood Elementary School also sang to the crowd with Nanette Gorsett directing as well as a unison “Thank You Veterans” by the students to conclude their performance at exactly 11 minutes and 11 seconds into the Program.

Keith Broyles of Malta Bend Memorial Post 558 gave a POW/MIA Moment to the crowd .

Greetings were also given by Stephanie Gooden Saline County Northern District Commissioner to the crowd a last minute replacement for Presiding Commissioner Becky Plattner on the current program. A round of applause was given to all those who had served including individual recognition for specific wars veterans in attendance were a part of.

Miranda Sharp a Malta Bend Student along with her advisor Amy Givens recited literature depicting the Battle of Fallujah and the events of many branches of military involved.

Speaker USN Captain gave a speech to the crown titled “Heroes to Us All” with specific events from past millatary heroes . The Wreath laying at the Saline County Veterans Memorial was placed by one of the Missouri Army National Guard members  followed by a 21 gun Salute by Malta Bend Memorial Post 558, as well as Allen Criswell TAPS.

A closing prayer with Rev David R Van Horn with the Marshall American Legion Post 191 followed by Benton and Eastwood students handing out flowers and placing flowers on War Memorials .
