A suspect has been charged in relation to a homicide case in Johnson County on November 9.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Department, several witnesses approached a residence on highway 13 where they saw a victim with gunshot wounds walking from the residence before falling to the ground. That victim was later taken to Western Missouri Medical Center, but later pronounced deceased.

One of the witnesses walked toward the residence, where they saw Jonathan Goodwin Jr. and another witness exit the property. Inside the residence, witnesses saw the body of another victim that had been shot. Both victims were pronounced deceased.

Law enforcement interview the witnesses, including the one who was with Goodwin. Both the victims and Goodwin allegedly got into an argument inside the residence. One of the victims allegedly pulled a handgun from their person and pointed it at Goodwin. Goodwin then reportedly took the handgun away and shot both victims. Goodwin allegedly fired around three or four times.

Goodwin has been charged with two counts of murder in the second degree, two counts of armed criminal action, and two counts of second-degree felony murder – Drug Perpetration/Attempted Perpetration/Flight from Perpetration of a Felony where a person dies. He is being held without bond.
