Mike, the son of George Florentine Vogel and Margaret Mary (Matthews) Vogel, was born on Oct. 29, 1934. He graduated from Mercy Academy in 1952, was a lifelong member of St. Peter Catholic Church and a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the United States Army for two years, earning the rank of Specialist 3rd Class, serving in Germany during the Korean War.
Mike married Frances Wilhelmina Kipping on Feb. 15, 1958. They shared a wonderful life together raising their family of six children and celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this year.
His memory will be cherished by his family: his wife, Frances; six children: Terry Vogel, Chris Vogel (Teresa), Phil Vogel (Kim), Karen Vogel Kopp, Diane Vogel-Howery (Eddie), and Dave Vogel (Beth); fourteen grandchildren: Shawn Vogel, Stephanie Vogel, Brett Vogel (Julie), Brandon Vogel (Cortney), Blake Vogel (Jodi), Blayne Vogel (Katie), Tara Bridges (Aaron), Margaret Wendt, Brian Kopp (Kelsey), Kevin Kopp, Nathan Potts, Ann Harder (Fletcher), Andrew Vogel (Shelby) and Hannah Helmkamp (Ryan); and fifteen great-grandchildren: Bailee Vogel, Bricen Vogel, Tyler Vogel, Brayden Vogel, Brooke Vogel, Logan Wendt, Abby Wendt, Alan Kopp, Evan Kopp, Gabriella Potts, Creed Vogel, Ellie Vogel, Bowen Vogel, Henry Helmkamp and Graham Helmkamp; two sisters, Vivian Kane and Georgeanne Edwards; as well as nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, George and Margaret Vogel; his sisters: Margaret Ellen Vogel, Anna Kathryn Carroll and Mary Elizabeth Bleazard; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Ann Vogel.
Mike farmed his whole life and enjoyed flying his private plane, spending time at “deer camp” with his family and friends and taking his dog, Sadie, for rides. He served his community by flying Angel Flights.
In 2013, he was selected as outstanding St. Peter’s Catholic School alumni.
Mike lived each day for his Savior, wife, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his dog, Sadie. He made each one of them feel very special and they were all his “favorites”. He was known as being the ornery one of the family, especially when playing cards.
