Marshall Saline Development Corporation made a $10,000 donation to purchase computers and peripherals for the competition esports team at Marshall Public Schools and the Saline County Career Center.
MSDC’s board saw this as a way to promote technology and computer skills to the public schools. MSDC is working on future plans to create a tech based community in Saline County. MSDC has been assisted with this plan by Center on Rural Innovation and Rural Innovation Strategies.
Those present at the presentation were Board members Greg Swift, Monte Fenner, Anmarie Gibson, Angy Littrell, Jeff Bergstrom, Bud Summers, Matt Huston, Kelly Callanan Athletic Director Marshall Public Schools, Walter Rodriguez esports coach and technology instructor Saline County Career Center, Sandy Hisle Board member and Brian Wilcoxson Director of Saline County Career Center.
Rodriguez said the grant will help fuel a multi-faceted approach to the program’s development. This includes equipping students with high-performance technology, acquiring a space for a dedicated esports lab, and getting team jerseys for players.
Rodriguez says the grant will also help nurture a vibrant esports community within the school.
