Larry was born at home in Marshall on September 24, 1944, to the late Ernest Matterson Moore and Bettie Agnes VanBuskirk Moore.  He was the third child and the only son.  He attended Marshall Public Schools and joined the United States Navy in 1967.  He enjoyed being able to see more of the world than he ever would have been able to see any other way.

In 1977, he met the “loves of his life” when he met and married Phyllis Joan Parcels Shanahan, and from that day on he was both husband and Dad.  In 1979, they added one Moore child and he thought that was a complete family, until the grandchildren started to arrive.  Then, he knew he was beginning an entirely new experience.

Larry worked at Van Meter State Park and at Arrow Rock State Historic Site, retiring in 2003.  He then went to work, part time, at Servpro in Marshall and stayed until his health no longer allowed him to work.

He and his family loved traveling, camping a lot when the children were younger.  After he retired they bought a Gold Wing Trike and enjoyed going together wherever they could.  Family was always his number one interest.

Larry is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his three sons: Jim Shanahan (Irina), Jeff Shanahan (Jackie) and Jason Moore (SherryBeth); and his daughter, Joan Blackburn (Rick); seven grandchildren: Mathew, Eric, Emily (Alex), Jared, Kayleigh, Easton and Avery; two great-grandsons, Bentley and Waylon; one sister, Ernestine Cartee (Richard); and lots of extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepdad, Alfred “Dick” Moore; two sisters, Lavonne Miller and Winnifred Dillon; and a grandson Jeremiah Shanahan.
