The Boonville Police Department was dispatched to a residence in Cooper County for a domestic call during the early morning hours on December 17.

Police entered the residence where they located a victim on the phone with a Cooper County dispatcher.

The victim told authorities that the suspect was intoxicated and was unsure if they were still in the residence.

Police noted that the victim had visible scratches on their forehead and cheek.

PD states that they heard the sound of an rifle round being chambered.

Police conducted a search of the residence where they located David Campbell with a weapon in hand; pointed towards a Cooper County Police officer.

The Boonville Police Department  later verified the weapon as an AR-15 Assault Rifle.

Police were able to remove the weapon from Campbell, and take him into custody.

Campbell later stated that he choked the victim and hit her in the face.

Campbell does not have any prior assault charges.

Campbell has been charged with Assault in the second degree, Domestic Assault in the second degree, and unlawful use of a weapon while intoxicated.

The suspect is in custody.

Bond is set at $50,000 cash or Surety.
