
Virginia L. Riffert, 85, of Marshall, MO, died Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, December 26, 2023, at First Baptist Church in Marshall with Rev. Wayne Doolin and Rev. David Slusher officiating. Burial will follow at Bethlehem Cemetery south of Marshall Junction. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Born October 19, 1938, in Evansville, IN, she was the daughter of the late Delbert “Jack” Hildebrant and Charlotte McMillen Hildebrant. Virginia lived her younger years in Indiana where she was a 1956 graduate of Chandler High School. On November 10, 1956, she married Frank L. Riffert who survives of the home. The family moved to Marshall in 1969 where they raised their family. In addition to being a homemaker for her family, Virginia worked at the J.C. Penney Store from 1982 until its closing in 2003. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for over 40 years, served as W.M.U. director, sang in the choir, as well as serving in many other ways. Virginia had served as a 4-H leader, Marshall High School Band Booster, Foreign Exchange Student Program parent, as well as serving Meals On Wheels with Frank.
In addition to her husband of 67 years, Frank; she is survived by their five children: Melissa Frazier (John) of Emma, MO, Valerie Williams (David) of Woodway, TX, Claudia Kays (Pitt) of Marshall, MO, Rodney Riffert (Sean Brooks) and Eric Riffert (Heather), both of St. Louis; 17 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; five brothers: Jack Hildebrant and Leroy Hildebrant, both of Newburg, IN, Maurice Hildebrant of McCutchanville, IN, Don Hildebrant of Jacksonville, FL and Michael Hildebrant of Murray, KY; two sisters, Charlene Shaw of Bradenton, FL and Sheila Summers of Evansville, IN; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.
Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; two great-grandchildren, Brinley Frazier and Heaven Durham; and a brother, Dennis Hildebrant.
