Leveta M. Hopkins, 85, of Houstonia, MO, died Monday, January 1, 2024, at The Living Center in Marshall, MO.

Born March 11, 1938, in Sumner, MO, she was the daughter of the late T. Howard Grimsley and Nellie E. Spencer Grimsley Whitmer. On February 23, 1966, she married Donald M. Hopkins. She had lived in Houstonia since 1971 and worked at ConAgra Foods where she was a union steward, retiring in 2000 after many years of service. After retirement, she worked for Scheid Farms. When she was younger she was an avid bowler and later bowled on a senior league. She and Don enjoyed going to their place at the lake, fishing and sitting on the front porch swing watching the squirrels on the feeder, and watching traffic go by.

Donald M. Hopkins, 90, of Houstonia, MO, died Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at The Living Center in Marshall, MO.

Born May 7, 1933, in Sedalia, MO, he was the son of the late Alfred James Hopkins and Nettie Elizabeth Martin Hopkins. On February 23, 1966, he married Leveta M. Grimsley Lightfoot who preceded him in death on January 1, 2024. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in the Korean Conflict. After his discharge from the Army he worked as a welder at DeLongs, MO-PAC and Sedalia Structural Steel all in Sedalia, later working at Quinn Concrete in Marshall retiring after many years of service. He enjoyed fishing, tinkering in the garage, visiting with family and friends and going to their place at the lake. Later in life, he enjoyed going sitting on the front porch, keeping the squirrel feeder full, watching the squirrels on the feeder, and watching traffic go by.

Don and Leveta are survived by two children, Linda Pointer (Huey) of rural Marshall and Donald E. Hopkins (Kelley) of Houstonia; son-in-law, Christopher Scheid of rural Marshall; eight grandchildren, Brandon Pointer, Lyndsey Davis (Derek), Cody Ballenger, Kristina Riley, Mara Scheid, Walter Hall (Stephanie), Jessie Abey (Mark) and Zachary Hopkins (Samantha); 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Leveta was preceded in death by her parents; one daughter, Donna L. Scheid; one grandson, Jessie Carl Ballenger; and four siblings, Earl Lee “Bud” McCollum, Gale Whitmer, Sandy Hill and Marilyn Portman.

Don’s surviving siblings include Judy Wasson of Sedalia, Larry David Hopkins, and Ruth Prihoda of El Campo, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Leveta; one son, Russell James Hopkins; one daughter, Donna Scheid; one grandson Jessie Carl Ballenger; and seven siblings, Mike Hopkins, Hazel Hepburn, Loraine Stevens, Elaine Preuitt, Lois Caton, Elsie Huffman, and Arlene Hopkins in infancy.

A Celebration of Life visitation for Don and Leveta will be held from 9:00 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Marshall. Graveside services with military rites will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Houstonia Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Fitzgibbon Home Health and Hospice.
