On December 30, 2023, a vehicle fire, determined to be intentionally set, occurred in the 1100 block of Harding Avenue, prompting an immediate response from the Sedalia Police Department.

Prompt reports of the incident included a suspect description, leading the Sedalia Police Department to intercept a suspect vehicle along Boonville Road near South Harding Avenue. When approached, the driver was notified of an impending vehicle search, but instead of cooperating, the individual resisted and was placed under arrest.

Another subject attempted to flee when he was informed he was being arrested.

Patrick Wayne Brown, 37, of Sedalia, was arrested on charges of Knowingly Burning or Exploding, Property Damage in the 1st Degree, Unlawful Possession of an Illegal Weapon, two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 2nd Degree, and felony Resisting Arrest.

Michael Lee Hughes, 50, of Sedalia, was arrested on a charge of felony Resisting/Interfering With An Arrest.

The situation escalated when, during the process of escorting the suspect to the patrol car, an altercation unfolded, resulting in the suspect assaulting an officer. Amidst the arrest, an uninvolved adult intervened, seizing the key from one of the suspects’ vehicles.

The Sedalia Police Department made the arrest of the individuals linked to the intentional car fire incident.
