The Marshall Fire Department responded to a building fire on Monday, January 15.

According to a report from the department, six personnel were dispatched to 1057 Redman Street at 9:17 a.m. for a reported crawl space on fire.

Fire fighters used a 150 foot pre-connect to extinguish the fire, which was coming from a crawl space on the south side of the apartment building.

The fire reported started when a salamander heater was used to thaw pipes under the structure, causing straw and cardboard material to catch on fire and spread. $8,000 in damages to the property were reported.

The scene was cleared at 10:28.
