The Marshall Municipal Utilities advises some tips and information on how to prevent water pipes from freezing in your home.
- Insulate pipes that are located in cold, drafty places inside your home.
- Keep garage doors closed, especially if there are water supply lines in the garage.
- Seal air leaks that may let an icy blast reach your pipes.
- Open kitchen and bathroom cabinet doors to allow warmer air to circulate the plumbing, especially if your sinks are on an exterior wall (if you have small children or pets, be sure to remove any harmful cleaners and household chemicals).
- Letting the cold water drip from faucets served by exposed pipes can help prevent freezing.
