Gary L. Rapp, 81, of Sweet Springs, MO, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at his home surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Sweet Springs, with William W. Harlow officiating. Visitation will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Burial with military rites will be in the Missouri State Veterans’ Cemetery in Higginsville. Born October 23, 1942, in Appleton City, MO, the son of the late Edwin Rapp and Helen Mannen Rapp. He was a graduate of Appleton City High School. On January 4, 1964, he married Gloria Ilene Bennett who survives of the home. He joined the United States Air Force in March of 1964, left for Vietnam in October of 1966 and served until October of 1967. After that, he served in Blytheville, AR where his two sons were born. After the military, the family moved back to Appleton City. He worked for Skelgas and Firestone retiring from Gardner Denver in 2009. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, swatting flies, traveling to visit family and especially enjoyed his time at the lake with friends. He served his church, Wesley United Methodist Church, in many capacities, the last several years as trustee.

In addition to his wife, Ilene, survivors include two sons, G.L. Rapp (Tracey) and Trevis Rapp (Heather); seven grandkids, Cassie Rogers (Jeff), Loren McNeel (Chance), Jodie Mitchell (Robert), Jenna Brown (Jared), Zeke Rapp, Joey Rapp and Jacob Rapp; one sister, Sandra Borland of Tucson, AZ; and several nieces and nephews.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents; a brother-in-law, Terry Borland; and one granddaughter, Stephanie Rapp.
