At the most recent Marshal Public School Board Meeting, the Saline County Career Center (SCCC) director recently acknowledged the outstanding achievements and progress facilitated by Leigh Ann Riley, the Health Science instructor.

Riley’s spotlight moment focused on the innovative program she developed, enabling students to graduate as Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs). This initiative originated from students’ inquiries about the potential benefits of taking Riley’s classes during their senior year.

Riley explained that, in response to students’ aspirations, she conceptualized and gained approval from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education for a program that allows students to graduate as certified CNAs.

The program, launched this year with five students, integrates real field experience, with some students already working in the field, earning credits based on their hours worked.

The credit system correlates hours in the field with academic credits, encouraging students to gain practical experience while progressing academically.

Riley reports positive outcomes, with two students earning Employee of the Month and recognition in their workplaces, showcasing the success of this innovative and impactful program at SCCC.
