The Howard County Sheriff’s Office arrested a Boonville man after a traffic stop.

According to the sheriff’s office, deputies observed a vehicle driving East bound on U.S. Highway 40 in New Franklin with no front license plate. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Logan Schutjer.

Schutjer also had a juvenile in the back seat of the car. Deputies gained reasonable suspicion of criminal activity and requested a K9 unit to respond to the scene. Upon arrival, the K9 provided a positive alert and indication. Deputies then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle.

During the search. Deputies located a plastic bag containing hallucinogenic mushrooms. Deputies also located two clear baggies containing a white powder-like substance, which field tested and provided a positive test for cocaine. Schutjer was placed under arrest.

The juvenile was released to a family member.

Schutjer has been charged with two felonies for possession of a controlled substance and one for endangering the welfare of a child involving drugs in the first degree. Bond was set at $20,000 cash only.
