The Sedalia City Council approved and accepted a quote for the upgrade of the Supervisory Control and Date Acquisition (SCADA) System for the central and Southeast Wastewater Treatment Plants during its meeting on Monday, February 5.

The system monitors equipment like flow meters and pumps for the water and sewer system, and notifies employees of potential failures or overflows. The current system the city uses is out of date, so the council decided it was time for an upgrade.

City Administrator Kelvin Shaw says the city was going to wait until next year, but that plan had to change when the city’s IT Department detected an intrusion in the system.

The budget for the project is $289,942.
