The Sedalia City Council considered an ordinance to authorize the use of the design-build process for for an upcoming project during its meeting on Monday, February 5.

The design-build process allows the city to enter into a single contract with the project designer and contractor for the project. The city plans to use this process for upcoming water treatment and wastewater projects. City Administrator Kelvin Shaw says the process is allowed as long as the city approves an ordinance.

The council approved the ordinance and will look to select a design-build contractor for a sewer project within the next six months.

In other news, the council authorized the Sedalia Fire Department to submit for two different safety grants. One of the grants was the Assistance to Fire-Fighters Equipment Grant, which will be used to purchase equipment like radios; and the other was the SAFER Grant, which can be used to help hire more fire fighters.
