On Monday, February 5th, 2024, at around 9:23 AM, the Sedalia Fire Department (SFD) received an emergency call reporting an individual trapped in a confined space. Recognizing the complexity of the situation, SFD promptly activated its Technical Rescue Team, consisting offive highly trained members.

As they approached the scene, it became apparent that this rescue required specialized techniques for confined spaces.

Upon arrival, SFD discovered the injured individual approximately 8 feet below ground level in a tunnel.

The on-duty crews immediately started stabilizing  the patient and setting up the necessary technical rescue equipment, playing a vital role in supporting the
operation.

SFD’s confined space and rope rescue experts entered the area, utilizing specialized equipment and advanced training to successfully carry out the rescue, with PCAD providing
essential patient care.

The successful rescue operation concluded at 10:17 AM, with the patient safely transferred to the Pettis County Ambulance District (PCAD) for further medical treatment.

This achievement highlights the effectiveness of Sedalia Fire’s Technical Rescue team, which was established in 2019 through the generous support of the city and City Council.

Today’s successful intervention emphasizes the significance of ongoing training and collaborative partnerships with key entities, including PCAD and the Sedalia Police.
