Smith-Cotton High School will send 10 students to the state FBLA competition based on their performances in the district-level event.
A total of 35 S-C students competed February 1 in the FBLA District Leadership Conference at the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg. Students who finished in the top two at the district competition move on to state in April; S-C’s Thomas Grable also advanced to the state competition by finishing fourth in Introduction to Marketing Concepts, a testing event. Six more S-C students received medals for finishing in the top five of their respective events.

• Emma Garrigus and Evangelina Nandho, first place in Website Design
• Jacelyn Lancaster, first place in Health Care Administration
• Citlalli Nava, Cecilia Marin and Cassie Schlup, first place in Introduction to Business Presentation
• Jacelyn Lancaster, second place in UX Design
• Thomas Grable, fourth place in Introduction to Marketing Concepts

• Savannah McLendon and Paiton Stackhouse, fourth place in Introduction to Event Planning

“I am so proud of the success we saw at Districts this year. We have a group of young members who worked very hard to prepare for their competitions,” Smith-Cotton FBLA Advisor Lakin Janke said. “We are in the largest district in the state, with more than 600 students competing locally. I cannot express how thrilled I am with these results and that we have so many moving on to the next level of competition. I am grateful our school is able to provide the resources for these young minds to flourish within our Career and Technical programs.”
