
A Sedalia man was arrested after stealing a motor vehicle on February 13, 2024.
According to the Sedalia Police Department, officers responded to a report of a vehicle theft in Sedalia. Officers searched the 2800 Block of West Broadway Boulevard for the vehicle, where it was located in a grassy area near railroad tracks with severe damage to the front end, windshield, rear wheels and tires, both side mirrors, and parts of the dump assembly on the back of truck. The damage to the truck totaled over $10,000.
The suspect, identified as Jacob Stoneking, was located in the area. Stoneking allegedly fled the scene of the crash, ran inside of a convenience store, and stole an alcoholic beverage and a food item. Stoneking was believed to be intoxicated at the time of the incident.
Stoneking has six prior convictions for stealing, and two prior convictions for stealing a motor vehicle.
Court documents say Stoneking has been charged with felonies for tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree and stealing. Bond was set at $15,000 cash or surety.
A counsel status hearing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 27, at Pettis County Circuit Court.
