
Delores M. “Dee” Burks, 90, of Marshall, died Monday, February 20, 2024 at the home of her daughter, Kathy who took loving care of her.
Graveside services will be Saturday, February 24, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at the Slater City Cemetery Columbarium, with Fr. Francis Doyle officiating. Memorials are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Fitzgibbon Hospice, in care of Weiker Funeral home in Slater.
Born March 7, 1933 in DeSoto, Missouri, she was the daughter of the late William L. and Elizabeth La Plante Pieschel. On February 19, 1955 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater, she married Barney Eugene Burks, and he survives of the home.
She is survived by two sons, Steven E. Burks and his wife Gayla of Sunrise Beach, and Keith J. Burks and his wife Maureen of Marshall; a daughter, Kathy Ann Young of Marshall; four grandchildren, Kaleb Howard and his wife Lindsey of Jefferson City, Cody Howard and his wife Heather of Marshall, Kyran Burks and his wife Amanda of Jefferson City and Katelyn McDaniel of Jefferson City; five great-grandchildren; three step grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Bill Pieschel, Gene Pieschel, Walter Pieschel, and Jim Pieschel; three sisters, Gerry Ferguson, Ann Craig, and Betty Bieberly.
Mrs. Burks was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slater. She lived in Warrensburg before moving to Slater in 1953. She and her husband moved to Marshall from Macon in 1997. She was employed at Town & Country Shoe Factory in Slater, The Hat Shop, and served as a Librarian at Slater Public Library before her retirement.
We, as her family, can honestly say that anyone who met Dee Dee felt the love that flowed forth from her. This love is a part of all of her children and extended family.
