The Marshall City Council convened in regular session yesterday, during which they received the annual update from Jeff Bergstrom, the General Manager of Marshall Municipal Utilities (MMU).

Bergstrom provided comprehensive information regarding the recently completed Marshall Municipal Utilities wastewater treatment plant project, which stands as the largest undertaking MMU has seen in recent years, costing approximately $9 million.

Additionally, Bergstrom highlighted the significant improvements made to the Southeast Substation on Hwy WW, a multi-year project that included the replacement of voltage gear in 2022 and subsequent modifications and the addition of another transformer in the following year.

Furthermore, Bergstrom discussed the ongoing efforts related to the USDA ReConnect Broadband Grant, noting the completion of the first round in a two-mile radius of Marshall, with three contracts awarded.

Notably, the subscriber count for broadband services has surpassed expectations, reflecting MMU’s commitment to serving its growing customer base, which includes 4,100 broadband customers, 5,200 water customers, and 6,000 electric customers, with anticipated further growth.
