Herbert Jordan Boehmer, 83, of Odessa, passed away at his home surrounded by family on February 20, 2024.

 

Herbert was born December 6, 1940 in Waverly. He was the son of Herbert and Mildred (Hill) Boehmer. He attended school in Alma and graduated from Alma High School in 1958. He later went to Kansas City Auction School and graduated August 30, 1974.

 

On March 18, 1961, he married Gloria Ann Wodrich and they lived in Concordia. They had 5 children, Michael Wayne, Thomas Lee, Donald Glenn, Lisa Kay and Maria Sue.

 

He worked for Herbert Boehmer & Sons Trucking in Alma until his father’s passing in 1978. He also worked at Tri Foods in Concordia during this time. He went to work at Super Sweet Feeds in Higginsville until 1984. But he spent most of his career working for Yellow Freight in Kansas City, MO and then they transferred to the Des Moines, IA terminal.  They lived in Urbandale, IA until he retired on December 31, 2002. After retiring, Herb and Gloria moved to Odessa.

 

When cigarettes hit .30 a pack he decided he could spend his money on better things and became an avid coin collector.  He lit up if you asked him about coins and could probably talk for hours about them.

 

He is preceeded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth Marvin Boehmer and Robert Eugene Boehmer; daughter Maria Sue Boehmer; and great grandson Ayden Neil Habegger.

 

He is survived by:

His wife of 62 years and 11 months, Gloria, of the home

Sons:               Michael Boehmer (Kathy) of Olathe, KS

Thomas Boehmer (Kathy) of Bates City

Donald Boehmer                  of Columbia, MO

Daughter:       Lisa Wooldridge (Shad)     of Windsor, MO

Brothers:        Allen Boehmer (Sandy)      of Concordia

Merle Boehmer (Janel)       of Williamston, MI

17 grand children and 21 great grandchildren

 

Visitation will be held on Friday, February 23rd from 6-8 pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Higginsville.

 

 

Funeral Services will be held Saturday, February 24th at 10:30 am at the church, officiated by Pastor Kurt Brandon.

 

He will be buried in the Calvary Cemetery in Corder.

 

 

Memorials are suggested to the Immanuel Lutheran School or Church
