The Saline County Career Center Future Business Leaders of America Chapter took part in the National FBLA Week celebrations February 11-17, 2024. The week was planned by the chapter officer team and advisor. This year, all students and staff at Marshall High School were invited to participate in the dress up days.

FBLA Week began on Monday with “Mentor Monday” where members attended a Mayoral Proclamation of FBLA Week by Marshall Mayor Vincent Lutterbie. Additionally, members had an opportunity to join a Zoom with National FBLA Officers and learn about the important role mentors play as students enter the workforce.

“Tuesday Talks” was held on Tuesday and the leadership team of Lauren Chaney-King, Dianna Escarate, Chase Staton, and Adviser Tracy Crumbaugh presented to the 8th grade students at Bueker Middle School about FBLA. Members were also encouraged to get comfy in their pajamas and talk about FBLA to potential members. On Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, the FBLA officers gave an FBLA fact on daily announcements were to raise awareness about FBLA. The monthly chapter meeting was held and after the meeting, chapter members enjoyed social time with a pizza party and making Valentine’s Day cards.

“Why Wednesday” FBLA members were encouraged to “Love” FBLA by wearing Valentine colors. After school, members delivered Valentine’s Day cards to residents at Westport Estates and Legendary Nursing & Rehabilitation.

“Thankful Thursday” was a day that the chapter members dressed as their future career choice and the chapter sent out business shout-outs on Facebook and Instagram to thank local businesses.

“Future Friday” brought members of FBLA to Spainhower Primary School to greet future FBLA members with a high-five, a smile, and a good morning. Immediately following, members traveled to Sedalia, MO to tour three local businesses. Students wore their annual chapter t-shirts to represent SCCC FBLA while touring. FBLA members learned about business operations in the local area and potential careers. Companies that were toured included Inter-State Studio, a photography and publishing company.

Students continued their tours to the Bothwell Regional Health Center where they discovered the career opportunities within the accounting department, environmental services/linens, materials management, and facilities management. The last tour stop was APS Solutions, located in the historic Lamy’s building. While there, learned about the entrepreneurial process and about the importance of never giving up, in addition to, the diversity of a staffing company’s career opportunities.
