A court hearing has been scheduled for two former employees of the Cooper County Jail who are facing charges of first-degree involuntary manslaughter in connection with the death of an inmate in October.

Robyn Pfeiffer, aged 29, and Rachel Atherton, aged 34, were charged last week in relation to the death of Brooke Bailey. Their hearing is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Friday, March 22. Pfeiffer waived a formal arraignment and pleaded not guilty on Friday.

Bailey was discovered deceased on October 27 in her cell, with evidence of blood and vomit on the floor and her clothing. The charges were filed by special prosecutors from the Jackson County Prosecutor’s Office.

According to the complaints filed against them, both Atherton and Pfeiffer are accused of neglecting to seek medical assistance for Bailey and instructing others not to intervene.
