Carolyn Sue Dial, 76, of Blackburn, MO, died Monday, March 11, 2024, at Boone Hospital Center in Columbia.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 16, 2024, at St. Paul United Church of Christ in Blackburn with William W. Harlow officiating.  Burial will follow in Blackburn Cemetery.  Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. Paul United Church of Christ.  An online guestbook is available at www.campbell-lewis.com.

Born May 20, 1947, in Holden, MO, she was the daughter of the late James Elmer Gregory and Margery Mae Carson Gregory.  Carol lived in Blackburn most of her life and was a 1965 graduate of LaSalle High School.  On August 15, 1965, she married Alvin Leslie Dial who preceded her in death on April 2, 2023.  Carol’s career was spent in materials management working at Kelling Hospital in Waverly, Community Hospital in Sweet Springs and then retiring from Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall.  She was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and served as the first female church council president.  Carol enjoyed being involved in the community and, along with her love for reading, served as editor of the Sunshine Line, Blackburn’s local newspaper.  She was a member of the Tieman-Blackburn American Legion Auxiliary, as well as various other groups and clubs through the years.  In her youth Carol enjoyed sports, dancing, and spending time with her cousins at family gatherings.  and as she grew older she enjoyed working with her flowers, reading, watching Hallmark movies and playing cards.

Survivors include two daughters, Sharla Wright (Earl) of Blackburn and Leslie Dierking (Craig) of rural Sweet Springs; one grandson, Aaron Wright; two brothers, James Robert Gregory (Bonnie) of Blackburn and Roger Lee Gregory (Ruth) of Blackburn; as well as nieces, nephews and other extended family.

In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by a grandson, Cody Austin Dierking; and a sister in infancy, Peggy Elaine Gregory.
