FLORENCE MARGARET MARTIN WESTERMIER

 

Florence Margaret Martin Westermier, 94 of LaMonte passed away, Friday, March 29, 2024 at Sylvia Thompson Residence Center.

 

Mass of Christian burial will be 11:30am, Wednesday, April 10, 2024 at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Sacred Heart Chapel, with Fr.

Joe Corel as celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Paul Martin, Daniel Grose, Brandon Grose, Mark Westermier, Randy Hudson and Craig Westermier. Honorary pallbearers will be Virgil Kraus, Russell Westermier, Dennis Hudson, Ken Lutz and Randy Clifford. The rosary will be recited at 9:30am, and the family will receive friends from 9:45am until services time, all at the church.

Memorials are suggested to the Sacred Heart School Foundation, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.

 

Florence was born March 4, 1930, in Lamine, MO to the late Henry Amil and Margaret Mary Bonen Martin, as their fourth and last child. Florence went to school at St. Martins in Chouteau Springs, north of Pilot Grove, and was a 1948 graduate of Pilot Grove High School. Upon graduation she worked at MFA insurance in Columbia, the shoe factory in Tipton, and the Welfare Office in Sedalia.

 

On November 14, 1953, in Tipton, MO, at the St. Andrew Catholic Church, she married Joseph Francis Westermier. He preceded her in death on January 11, 2008.

 

She is preceded in death by her son Mike; grandsons Eric Jennings and Patrick Clawson; her sister Mildred Kraus; and brothers Leonard and Raymond Martin.

 

Survivors include her daughters Mary Jo Ballenger (Jim Irey) of Latham, Rita Jennings (Jerry) of Sturgeon, and Anna Mae Clawson (Doug) of Columbia; along with five granddaughters Courtney Moon (Justin), Amanda McSwain (Robert), Lisa Jennings, Jennifer Bratton (James) and Janice Clawson (Daric Denney), plus three great-grandchildren, Lexi Moon, Ian and Claire McSwain, and one on the way.

 

Florence was a 4-H Foods Leader, worked in many elections in Dresden, and an active member of Sacred Heart Church for many years. She enjoyed living and working on the family farm, gardening, quilting, and coloring many pretty pictures.
