On February 23, the Marshall Police Department responded to a report of a stolen vehicle. The victim reported that 31-year-old Katelyn Williams of Miami originally had given Williams permission to borrow their vehicle, but then reported to police that after once returning the vehicle, Williams then left a second time without permission, taking the 2017 Lincoln MKC without consent, thus leading to a felony charge of first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle against Williams.

A text conversation that was provided to the Marshall Police Department, between the victim and Williams did confirm the demand for return.

The vehicle was eventually returned by an unidentified male.
