The Smith-Cotton High School Constitutional Law team traveled to Columbia on Monday, April 8, to compete in the Show Me the Constitution competition. The team of Eleanor Holiway, Chris Boehm and Lauren Homan, placed fourth.

The students immersed themselves in constitutional law by researching and writing speeches on free speech, judicial review, and affirmative action. A highlight of their research was a Zoom session with SCHS alumnus Keelly Jones, who attends the University of Michigan Law School.

The students took on the role of experts testifying for congressional committees and earned first-hand experience in civic discourse. Panels of Missouri lawyers challenged the students in Q and A sessions and complimented the team for their legal knowledge and preparation.

The team represents Smith-Cotton’s Vision of a Graduate, which is to be communicators, problem-solvers, and knowledgeable and engaged citizens.
