
A Wichita, Kansas man was arrested after getting stopped in a stolen vehicle on I-70 on April 27.
According to the Cooper County Sheriff’s Office, a law enforcement officer was notified of a stolen vehicle traveling on Eastbound I-70. The vehicle had a Kansas registration and was reported stolen by the Wichita Police Department.
Authorities conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and made contact with the driver, identified as Monte Sims. Sims claimed that the vehicle belonged to his mother, but he had paid for it. The victim reported to police that Sims had taken the vehicle without permission and refused to return it, causing the stolen vehicle report to be filed. Sims was reportedly trying to get to New York.
Court documents say Sims has been charged with a felony for tampering with a motor vehicle in the first degree and a misdemeanor for driving while revoked. Bond was set at $10,000 cash or surety.
No court dates have been set at this time.
