Yesterday, the Johnson County Fire Protection District responded to two water rescue incidents, conducting a total of three rescues that required responders to enter floodwater. The first incident occurred on W. Division Road between SW 101 Road and NW 151 Road, where two individuals were rescued from a vehicle submerged in floodwater. The second incident took place on NE 151 Road south of the 13 Highway bypass (Monkey Mountain area), where a vehicle was swept off a floodwater-covered roadway and sank. The occupant managed to escape the vehicle and swam in the moving floodwater, clinging to a tree until rescuers retrieved them from the water.

The region has experienced significant rainfall within a short timeframe, resulting in flooding in both typical and atypical flood-prone areas. If a path is covered in water, individuals are advised to stop, turn around, and drive away from it. It’s important not to attempt to drive around warning signs or through floodwater.
