The Sedalia City Council gave a special award to the city’s firefighter of the year during a recent meeting.

The council recognized Jacob Carver, of the Sedalia Fire Department, as its firefighter of the year. The council and the city presented the award at the meeting, thanking him for his service to the community.

In other news, the council approved several budget amendments after receiving some grants into the city’s budget. The first grant was the Assistance to Firefighters Grant, which came in at $91,824.12. The grant was used for radios and other equipment for the department.

The other grant was the Missouri Department of Public Safety Equipment Grant in the amount of $20,000.

Also, the council accepted the resignation of John Kehde from the Bothwell Regional Health Center Board of Trustees. The council then appointed Cassie Brown to that board, but to fill the term of Paul Bassett, which expires in June 2025. The council will need to appoint a new member to fill Kehde’s term during a future meeting.
