Wilma Ruth Shannon, 87, of Napton, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Friday, May 10th, 2024, at the Living Center in Marshall.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2024, at Campbell-Lewis Chapel in Marshall, with Pastor Randy Shannon officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 am to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home Burial will be in Nelson Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Smith Chapel United Methodist Church or to Nelson Cemetery. Wilma was born May 5, 1937, to Ruth Elizabeth Mariah Van Bibber Harris and Grover Cleveland Harris in Smithville, Missouri. In 1962, in Liberty, Missouri, she married Edward Lyle Shannon, who preceded her in death.

 

For more than 50 years, Wilma and her husband traveled across the region playing music with their band. If you didn’t catch her singing on Saturday night, you could find her early Sunday morning leading music and helping the children with bible school. Wilma enjoyed participating in her church community and felt blessed to have made many wonderful friends from church over the years. Wilma was known for her kind spirit, infectious laughter, green thumb for rose gardens and the very best macaroni and cheese you’ve ever had.

 

Wilma is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Ann Gibson, of Warsaw, MO; four grandchildren, Lindsey Nicole Simmons and her husband Christopher of Clarksville, TN , Jeremy Tyler Simmons of Warsaw, MO, Justin Scott Simmons and his wife Margo of Columbia, MO and Lyssa Marie Ramberg and her husband Tristan of Marshall, MO; six great-grandchildren, Raylynn Marie, Johnathan Cole, Benjamin Lyle, Myles Lee, Reid Harris, Lillian Dawn and Wilma was eagerly awaiting the arrival of her seventh great-grandchild in October. Wilma is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

In addition to her parents, Wilma was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Lyle Shannon in 2016 and her eight brothers and sisters, Paul Harris, Frances Reeves, Chester Harris, Alberta Hall, Sarah Elliott, Nina Shannon, Mary Warren, and Della Clapp.
