Mary Katherine Brunkhorst 79, of Alma, MO, died Sunday, May 12, 2024, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall, MO.

 

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 17, 2024, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alma, with Pastor Bernard Ross officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the church. Burial will be in St. Peter Cemetery in the Flora community in Lafayette County. Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church or Lafayette County Cancer Coalition in care of Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home. Friends may sign the online register book at www.campbell-lewis.com

 

Born December 6, 1944, in Alma, she was the daughter of the late Leonard Schmidt and Katherine Flair Schmidt. She was a 1963 graduate of Alma High School. On June 22, 1963, she married Richard Brunkhorst who preceded her in death on July 24, 2016. She was a cook at Santa Fe High School. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she served on the church Altar Guild and the Evangelism committee. She was also a member of the Alma 4-Square Club, American Legion Auxiliary; a volunteer at Trinity Lutheran School reading program; volunteered with Braille and the Orphan Grain Train; and a former project leader for the 4-H Club in Alma. She loved cooking, sewing and being with family.

 

Survivors include two daughters, Sheryl Wodrich (Darren) of Alma and Jeanette Long (Michael) of Richmond; six grandchildren, Cole (Callie), Tanner (Lexy), Carter, Emma (Nathan), Gage and Reuben; six great-grandchildren; one sister, Dorothy Strack (Larry) of Harrisonville; as well as nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, Mary Katherine was preceded in death by one sister, Karen Anderson.
