
Edward Lee Nierman, 83, was called to his eternal home by his Lord and Savior, Monday, on May 13, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, 2024, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Concordia, with Pastors Michael Pottschmidt and Andrew Lehenbauer officiating. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, May 24, 2024, at Campbell-Lewis Funeral Home in Concordia. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Lutheran Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Saint Paul Lutheran High School, St. Paul’s Grade School or Lutheran Bible Translators. Born on April 15, 1941, at home on the farm, outside of Concordia, MO, in the same room he slept in most of his adult life, Ed was the son of Alvin and Frieda (Rolf) Nierman. He was adopted into the family of God through Holy Baptism on May 4, 1941, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Concordia, MO. He grew up on the family dairy farm and attended St. Paul’s Lutheran School and Saint Paul Lutheran High School. He confirmed his Christian faith on April 3, 1955, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Ed married Shirley Schmohe on October 19, 1963. Shortly after he was called to duty as a 1st Lt., U.S. Army, 3rd Bn, 13th Arty, 25th Inf. Div., Schofield Barracks, Oahu, HI. After serving for 2 years, he and Shirley moved back to Concordia and began farming.
Ed and Shirley enjoyed 53 years of marriage working the dairy farm and field crops and raising two children. He served the Lord through St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and School, Saint Paul Lutheran High School, LCMS Missouri District, Dairy boards, civic organizations, and many other activities throughout the community. Ed was a devoted, faithful and humble man of God who was a friend to many. He and Shirley faced challenges and hardships with patience, perseverance, and complete faith in God. They also enjoyed and expressed thankfulness for all their blessings which God bestowed on them. They both had many good times playing cards with great friends and family. Ed loved singing in the church choir and is now singing praises in Heaven. Ed lived a life of hard work, determination, generosity, and gratitude.
Ed had a heart for Christian education and did all he could to help support St. Paul’s Grade School and Saint Paul Lutheran High School. As an alumnus of Saint Paul Lutheran High School, he was instrumental in helping to keep the school open after the college closed.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Jenny (Brian) Keilig, Omaha, NE; and son, Curt, Lincoln, NE; three grandchildren, Cory (Brooke) Keilig, Omaha, NE, Olivia (Austin) Oerman, Lincoln, NE; and Sophia Keilig, Omaha, NE; great-grandchild Beckett Oerman, Lincoln, NE; and great-grand baby Keilig (Cory & Brooke) due in June. He is also survived by a brother, Paul (Mary) Nierman, Eden Prairie, MN; brother-in-law, Kenneth (JoAnn) Schmohe, Boulder, CO; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Ed was preceded in death by his loving wife, Shirley; his parents, Alvin & Frieda (Rolf) Nierman; sister, Carolyn Driver; sister-in-law, Ruth Ohrenberg and brother-in-law, Wes Ohrenberg.
