
Michael John Basham, 53, of Broomfield, CO, formerly of Sedalia, passed away Sunday, May 19, 2024 in Lee’s Summit, MO.
Memorial mass will 10am, Friday, May 31, 2024 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, St. Patrick Chapel with Fr. Joe Corel as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Rosary will be recited at 6:30pm, Thursday, May 30, 2024, at McLaughlin Funeral Chapel, followed by visitation from 7pm until 8pm. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society, AmeriCorps, or towards memorial masses at St. Patrick Catholic Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
He was born December 25, 1970 in Seoul, South Korea. He is the son of Frieda (Samson) Basham and the late David Basham.
Michael was raised with his family in Sedalia and attended K-12 at Smithton School. He was a 1989 graduate. He then attended Missouri S&T in Rolla and graduated with an engineering degree in 1994. After college, Michael dedicated two years to the AmeriCorps organization. He was very proud of this service and time. Michael then worked as an IT Consultant for Accenture, Sprint, VML and various other IT companies spanning 25 years.
Michael loved adventure. He was an avid mountaineer and outdoorsman. Exploring the world was his passion, ranging from scuba diving in the Great Barrier Reef to hiking in Nepal to touring the Great Pyramids of Egypt. These are just a select few of the destinations he has explored. Michael loved America’s National Parks. He even started a YouTube channel designed for those unable to see the beauty first hand. Michael enjoyed his large family and spending time with his parents, brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. His friends were also a very important part of his life, some going back to his first day of kindergarten. He treasured every one of them.
Survivors include his mother, Frieda Basham, three sisters Ramona Kroenke (Dwight), Maria Letourneau (Todd), Bernadette Basham; two brothers Aaron Basham, and Stefan Basham. Four nieces, Amanda Budea (Bogdan), Heather Millard (Ky), Erin Letourneau and Averi Kroenke; two nephews, Trevor Kroenke and Tyler Kroenke (Carolyn). He was preceded in death by his father, David.
